Are You Ready For Restaurant Week?

Hold on to your hats! Restaurant Week is upon us. NYC Restaurant Week (NYCRW) occurs semiannually in celebration of fine dining and all things delicious. Participating restaurants offer scrumptious three-course prix-fixe menus for lunch ($25) and dinner ($38). My favorite part of NYCRW is that it’s so much longer than a week. The festivities run from January 18th to February 5th.

Where should you go?

There are hundreds of participating restaurants, and where you go depends on your strategy, of course. Some diners may opt for the high-end restaurant they haven’t been able to add to their dining portfolio yet. Alternatively, some may prefer to avoid the reservation frenzy at the big-name spots and check out some under-the-radar restaurants. There aren’t a ton of options in Brooklyn, but that won’t stop us. Here’s what’s on the short list for BrklynHospitality…

Madiba, a South African restaurant in Fort Greene, is a good option any day. Normally, I order the Pap & Vleis with some slap chips, but I do often wonder about their ‘From the Sea’ section. During NYCRW, I would opt for the Cape Capensis, which features a South Atlantic whiting filet flavored with peri peri, lemon and garlic. Restaurant Week menu is available here.

French Louie is a great place to take advantage of the affordable prix-fixe menus offered during NYCRW. Entrees normally run between $22-$38, but you can now enjoy three courses for just a bit more. I’m a sucker for gnocchi dishes. So, the Gnocchi À La Parsienne with wintry roasted squash, kale, mushrooms and mushroom consommé  is right up my alley.

Esh Restaurant & Bar, formerly The Gorbals, is Top Chef winner Ilan Hall’s Williamsburg-based brainchild. The menu features what he has deemed ‘Israeli barbecue’ and I cannot wait to try it. This creative NYCRW menu had me at smoked duck matzoh ball soup. Also, look at that rooftop.

What’s the catch?

Participating restaurants exclude Saturdays, and Sundays are optional. When ordering away, remember beverages, gratuities and taxes are not included.

What else should I know?

As if NYCRW wasn’t already great enough, they’re also giving away a $50 gift card to select restaurants for your awesome Instagram photos tagged with #NYCRestaurantWeek. Details below and here.
